Dorothy's Dumplings

1 cup all-purpose flour 
2 tablespoons cornstarch 
3 teaspoons baking powder 
1/2 teaspoon salt 
1 beaten egg 
1/2 cup low-fat milk


  1. In a medium bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, baking powder and salt. Stir in egg and milk; mix just until the dry ingredients are moistened. 
  2. Drop batter, by rounded tablespoonfuls, onto a boiling stew or broth. Cover tightly; boil gently 10 minutes or until dumplings are fluffy and no longer doughy on bottom of dumpling. For a tender dumpling, have the stew boiling and keep it covered constantly. 
  3. Serve immediately.
