O' Christmas Tree Bread

Celebrate Christmas with this bread shape developed by Cindy Falk, nutrition educator for Kansas Wheat. The recipe can be used with your favorite homemade bread dough, or even frozen dough purchased at the grocery store. We used frozen dough in our test kitchen for the development of the shape.

  1. Form dough into 17 balls (1.2 to 1.4-ounce) or use frozen dinner roll dough.
  2. Arrange balls on lightly greased baking sheet or baking sheet lined with parchment paper in a triangular pattern of 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 leaving ¼” space between balls.
  3. To form trunk roll one of the remaining balls into a 15”rope. Hold up ends and twist together, pinching ends to seal.
  4. Gently lift up center ball or roll, tuck pinched end beneath to attach trunk.
  5. Roll remaining ball out to 1/4” thick. Use mini-star cookie cutter to press out star shape. Place star at the top of the tree.
  6. Cover, let rise until nearly double.
  7. Bake in preheated 350° F oven 20 to 22 minutes or until golden. If desired, lightly brush with melted butter.

OPTIONAL: Decorate with icing, candied fruits and decorated candies.
